New to Hockey? What you need to know to get in the game.
Hockey brings kids and communities together. It's about grabbing a stick, making some friends, memories that last a lifetime and... FUN!!! To kick off the '23 Registration Season, the OMHA is welcoming everyone to the fun and friendship of hockey!

Hockey is FUN!

It's the best game on earth - and we get to do it all with our friends. From cheering each other on and celebrating our accomplishments together, the benefits of playing hockey are clear. Physical fitness, development of physical literacy and confidence, and the encouragement of healthy lifestyle choices each have long-lasting effects on growing children.

Then there are the life lessons. Hockey teaches core values like the importance of teamwork and showing respect for others. It also teaches work ethic, discipline, and the importance of having a positive attitude - even in the face of adversity. Being on a team gives them a sense of belonging, a connection to their teammates and the town they play in.

We use sport to help build better people and to create a better community around us. By focusing on developing good citizens first and hockey players second, players can be inspired to work hard and be dedicated and disciplined. The benefits of hockey aren't just limited to players - parents, coaches, administrators, team staff and volunteers can all benefit from the life lessons that hockey teaches.

Let's drop the puck!

If you and your child are excited to try hockey, but aren't sure how to get started, you have come to the right place! Helping new players start hockey is one of the OMHA's priorities, this and every year.
